The Bedtime Stories are an ongoing series of three-dimensional diptychs that investigate our sexual
behavior and courtship, by focusing on specific senses. Each pair, depicting some parts of the human body
in an erogenous context, is sewn onto stretched canvas with latex rubber, bandanas, fabric and embroidery floss.
Bedtime Stories V-XI focus on the sense of touch by incroporating touchable materials like artificial grass,
velvet, fake fur, lace, synthetic hair and sandpaper that envelope the diptychs completely. Each object closes
with a brass catch in the front which the viewer opens as if it were a private diary, thus demonstrating how
blurred the line is between the private and the public. The different colored bandanas refer loosely to the
handkerchief codes that are used by some S/M and gay groups to tell the potential partner a preference for a
specific sexual activity. The actual hairpins in some of the pieces suggest a test that one can perform on oneself
to determine erogenous zones.
